The second generation Toyota Tundra has been around for quite some time now. The pick-up has been soldiering on since 2007 with minor updates and it looks like Toyota has planned another update for the Tundra before the new generation arrives sometime around 2020. A camouflaged test mule has been spotted in the city of Los Angeles.
The test mule hides a new grille, reworked hood and revised headlights under all the cladding. Apart from these no other significant changes are seen. However, there might be some tweaks under the hood. Toyota might plonk an all new ten-speed automatic transmission in the new Tundra. This transmission does its duty in the new generation Lexus LC and LS sedan and was slated to debut in all of the Toyota’s rear-wheel-drive vehicles. This includes the updated Toyota too. However, what remains to be seen is whether the new transmission will be available with the update or will it only be available when the new generation Tundra arrives at the turn of the decade.
Until then the updated Tundra will continue to be offered with the current range of engines. The base variant gets a 4.0-litre V6 producing a healthy 235bhp. While the top-of-the-line variant will come with a 5.7-litre V8 pushing out around 380bhp.
This updated Toyota Tundra is expected to be revealed later this year. The 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show in November seems to be the most adept venue for the debut of the most successful Japanese pick-up truck in America.
