- The Kwid might get a slight update with additional features, reverse parking camera and a slightly tweaked grille.
- The powertrain will remain unchanged.
- Renault might bring in the refreshed Kwid ahead of the festive season.
Renault India’s top seller, the Kwid, is about to get a modest update. An undisguised model was a spotted recently at a dealer’s yard with slight cosmetic changes and additional equipment. We expect the refreshed Kwid to be launched pretty soon as a 2019 model year most probably before this year’s festive season.
With the update, the Kwid is likely to get a reverse parking camera in the top-spec RXT (O) trim. The camera will be neatly hidden inside the Renault logo at the back. Apart from that, there might also be a rear-centre armrest and a 12-volt power supply along with rear seat belts as a part of the update. According to reports, Renault might start offering the touchscreen infotainment system even in the RXL trim.
Additionally, the AMT variants of the entry-level hatchback are believed to get a creep function. This function is very handy when driving around on inclines or in city traffic. The ABS and rear parking sensors are also on the cards, but nothing is confirmed yet. Cosmetic changes seen on the spotted model included a chromed treated grille and Kwid decals on the doors and that’s about it.
The Kwid proved to be a runaway success for the French carmaker in India. It took on highest selling Maruti Suzuki Alto in the demanding entry-level segment and established itself as a worthy alternative. It is the only car in its segment to offer a touchscreen at the moment. With the added equipment, Renault can hope the Kwid can continue its momentum in the challenging Indian car market.
