Recently Honda launched the updated City in the Japanese market which looks identical to the Honda City which is on sale in India. The cosmetic elements of both models are similar. However, the Japanese car packs a long feature list when compared to the Indian spec car.
The new sedan now gets an updated safety feature by the manufacturer, dubbed as ‘Honda-sensing’ technology. The safety tech is an intelligent ‘driver assist’ which alerts the driver through various systems such as Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) and Forward Collision Warning (FCW). The technology was recently introduced in the 2018 Honda Jazz, which was launched internationally. The updated model also comes with new smartphone connectivity features.
The City in the Japanese market is powered by the 1.5-litre engine mated to a CVT transmission. However, a hybrid version is on offer as well. The hybrid car sources its power from the same 1.5-litre engine coupled to an electric motor the car produce 167bhp. The Hybrid City gets a seven speed dual clutch transmission and an optional all-wheel drive system.
The prices for the Japanese buyers range from 1,769,040 Yen (Rs. 9,99,643) to 2,569,320 Yen (Rs. 14,51,863), depending on the trim. Although the possibility of a Hybrid Honda City in India is ruled out in India, the next generation Honda City with its updated features list seems to be only a couple of years away, at the moment.
