- Brazilian debut on 9 November
- No mechanical changes
There’s an update for the Honda City and it will debut first in the Brazilian market on November 9 and expected to debut in India sometime in 2025. The updates are wholly cosmetic and mostly concentrated on the outside of the car.
The big changes for the Brazilian market include a new grille and front and rear bumpers. The India-spec car already gets these bumpers while the new bit we will likely get is the grille. Inside, it’s a white over black interior, very similar to what is present in the India-spec City e:HEV. However, the biggest change is that the City now gets dual-zone climate control, something we are sure will come to India as a new USP for the updated car. The updated layout has also moved the wireless charging pad to behind the gear lever. Apart from these, the Brazilian car now gets everything that we have in India. This list includes the Honda Connect suite, level-2 ADAS and full LED headlamps in the top-spec model.
The engine on offer in Brazil is Honda’s 1.5-litre i-VTEC mill producing 119bhp/145Nm and can be had with either a six-speed MT or a CVT. In India, we also get a hybrid powertrain. The e:HEV’s powertrain produces 100bhp/127Nm but has an electric motor for additional boost as well for better efficiency in bumper-to-bumper traffic.
The sedan market has shrunk even further since the start of this decade. The demand for SUVs of all types has eaten into their share and thus Honda needs every number it can get from the City. its most iconic and longest-serving product. These updates, while minor should make a difference to the City’s numbers across the standard and hybrid variants. The dual-zone climate control is also expected to make its way to the Elevate once the updated City has been launched.
