- Launch expected in March
- To get an AWD system
Tata Motors showcased the electric version of the Harrier at the recently concluded Bharat Mobility Show. The upcoming EV portrayed several updates that the carmaker has planned not only in terms of looks and features but also AWD tech. Here's what we can expect from the upcoming Harrier.ev.
New look and special editions
Earlier iterations of the Harrier.ev displayed at previous auto shows had given us an idea that the EV would be based on a heavily modified version of its ICE sibling. So it isn't a surprise it looks identical, albeit the EV-specific grille, reworked bumpers, aero-optimised wheels, and EV badges. However, it also sports a new matte finish exterior shade in a special Stealth edition, which we will see on other cars too.
New features
Again, since the Harrier.ev isn't a ground-up EV, it carries forward the dashboard design and equipment from its ICE counterpart. However, it boasts new features like terrain modes and EV-specific vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging capabilities. Then, there's connected car tech, over-the-air updates, and cloud-connected telematics. Interestingly, Tata Motors displayed its new 'summon' feature by bringing in the EV on stage at the event without a driver.
AWD tech
We are now familiar with Tata's Gen 2 acti.ev architecture, which is a Land Rover-derived Omega platform, heavily modified for electrification. This platform underpins the Harrier.ev and has allowed the carmaker to finally bring in an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system with this car. This AWD configuration employs a dual-motor setup with one motor on each axle. It will be the first car to get what the carmaker calls the QWD tech and also boast a driving range of 500km on a single charge.
