- The all-new Jaguar J-Pace is a flagship SUV due to arrive in 2021.
- It will share its underpinning with Range Rover
- The Porsche Cayenne rival will be sporty as well as a capable off-roader.
- It is expected to increase sales, which is already at an all-time high owing to the success of the F-Pace and the newcomer E-Pace.
Jaguar started its SUV line-up with the first-ever F-Pace two years ago. And now the high-riding Jaguar line-up is three members strong with the smaller E-Pace and the electric I-Pace joining in. Now, the British marque will be making the most of the Range Rover platform to introduce a full-size SUV. Expected to arrive in 2021, the flagship SUV might be christened as the J-Pace (not confirmed) and will rival the Porsche Cayenne and the likes.
Digitally rendered here, we know the J-Pace will carry the new design language of the Coventry-based carmaker. Sharing its running gear with Range Rover means that the J-Pace will be a capable off-roader while being sporty on the road as well. The success garnered by the F-Pace and the good initial start of the baby E-Pace has paved way for the bigger J-Pace. Meanwhile, the need for producing high-end models to maintain the Jaguar’s image as a luxury carmaker further fueled the need for a flagship SUV.
Jaguar might introduce the J-Pace in the Chinese market where there has been a huge demand for the SUVs lately. The new off-roader might even be manufactured in China and launched in a couple of years’ time to keep the cost competitive. The Range Rover platform means it will have an aluminium construction along with the same set of engine options. A hybrid powertrain for the J-Pace is not ruled out either. Being a Jaguar, it will be longer, wider and will sit lower compared to its RR siblings. It will also offer more cabin space and comfort with clever packaging.
The new J-Pace will be the brand's fourth SUV in a period of just five years. This goes to show the importance of SUVs in all the markets in the past few years. Jaguar will also introduce the new flagship SUV in India shortly after its global debut in 2021.
