Fiat has been working on its next-gen Punto for quite a while now. Ahead of its official launch by the end of this year, fresh images of the test mule codenamed X6H have emerged. The new Punto will get lots of style and design upgrades giving it a sportier stance. The front gets a redesigned grille that complements the sharper and bolder looking headlamps. The test mules featured regular steel rims as well as a five triple spoke alloy wheel design. However, the production ready model will get alloy wheels as standard. The rear section gets bigger and sharper taillights to complete the new age styling. The bumpers are also bigger and bolder than the current generation. As for the interiors, the new Fiat Punto will sport a new steering wheel, like the one seen in the Jeep Renegade. The upholstery has been redone to offer a refreshing feel. In terms of features, the new Punto might get UConnect infotainment system and a city drive mode. Fiat will be using the X6H platform for developing a wide range of models including a Punto-based sedan which is likely to be called the Linea again and an all-new SUV. Under the hood, the new Fiat Punto is expected to be powered by a 1.4-litre petrol engine which generates around 100bhp of power and a 1.8-litre E-Torq petrol engine. It is also believed that the Europe-bound model will get 0.9-litre TwinAir turbo-petrol engine. The car will be offered in manual and automatic transmission options. Airbags and ABS with EBD is expected to be standard along with all other modern safety features. As the current model is over 10 years, a generational change is expected to help the brand stand strongly against competition in the market.
