Alfa Romeo’s much-awaited SUV now has a name. The long overdue model is to be called Stelvio if we go by a recent report from Auto Express. The production, meanwhile, is scheduled in the final quarter of 2016 with early 2017 anticipated to be the time of launch.
The name Stelvio comes from the infamous Stelvio mountain pass in Italy near the Swiss border known for its challenging hairpins and beautiful vistas.
Not much is known on this new model although Alfa Romeo is expected to make use of a revised version of the Giulia’s platform. Designed for both rear- and all-wheel drive powertrains, this new platform will allow the Stelvio to be powered by a range of engines including four-cylinder and V6 petrol and diesel units.
In addition to the Stelvio, Alfa Romeo will introduce two all-new crossover models that are expected to grace the brand’s showrooms by 2020.
