The McLaren 570 and the 720 are supercars that only a few other car makers can compete with. But then, for McLaren, they are just the everyday bread and butter. What they indulge in is the Ultimate series and after the P1 and the P1 GTR, the McLaren Senna has been revealed.
No wonder McLaren has gone all out with it because that is the legacy of one of the most celebrated F1 champions, Ayrton Senna, who was known to fight it out to the limit. One look at the McLaren Senna and you will know why I am saying that. The carbon fibre lip in the front, the Le Mans-style wheel arches, the side scoops scream ‘form follows function’. The twin diffusers in the back and the large rear wing with active aero bits tell you about the intense wind-tunnel testing the Senna has undergone.
Despite all this track-focussed performance form, the McLaren Senna is road legal and even gets real world comfort including air-conditioning, infotainment system and the rear-view camera. The seats, however, will be unique and custom-built for the particular buyer. And then there are these insane bits like the see-through doors.
The Senna is powered by the same 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine as the 720S, but this one develops 789bhp of power and 800Nm of torque that is 69bhp and 30Nm more than the 720S. The custom Pirelli P-Zero Trofeo rubber will lay down all the power for you while the carbon ceramic discs make sure you stop in time. With carbon fibre all around, it also weighs almost 85Kg lesser than the 720S.
While the performance numbers are yet to be announced, this will be a sub-four second 0-100kmph car with the top-speed well beyond 300kmph. Only 500 units of this car will be ever built and no prizes for guessing that each one of these would have already found a home for themselves when they start rolling out by mid-2018.
