Air pollution, global warming and related concerns that were considered to be a century away might have come closer than ever before. With many of the developed countries now aiming at rolling out EVs, UK is planning to ban sales of fossil fuel cars from 2040.
According the authorities, UK is losing close to 2.7 billion pounds every year in terms of productivity due to ailments caused by air pollution. Hybrid cars will be allowed to squeeze through the noose though. The speculations come as the environment secretary is set to publish the full air quality plan.
The UK government is planning to earmark funds to the tune of over a billion pounds to create the infrastructure needed for such a decision. With more than 13,000 electric charging points across the country as of now, UK is confident of achieving the infrastructure targets before the 2040 deadline in order to make the transition smooth.
