As far as world records go, this one’s quite special. Nissan has just set a Guinness World Record for the fastest drift. Using a heavily tuned GT-R Nismo, Japanese drifting champion Masato Kawabata was able to go sideways at a speed of 304.96kmph. The drift attempt was held during a special event at Fujairah International Airport, UAE.
The tuned GT-R Nismo used to set the record was tested extensively at Japan’s Fuji Speedway with Kawabata at the wheel. Nissan says the car was setup for agility while maintaining stability at extremely high speeds. Its twin turbo engine makes no less than 1380bhp and the car itself is rear-wheel drive, which is ideal for drifting.
We would like to add that Nissan used the old GT-R to set this record. The brand, as we know, has unleashed the 2017 GT-R which will soon go on sale. The car gets an all-new interior and even more power than before.
