Toyota has showcased the TS040 hybrid car at the 2016 Auto Expo. The carmaker has built up all the required excitement for Toyota racing fans and aficionados by exhibiting the hybrid car at the biennial event.
Even if this is the 2014's winning version of the TS040 in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, now there is also a 2015 Toyota TS040 Hybrid closely similar to this one. It is updated to comply with the latest regulations and since it has a new crash structure, the front is redesigned. The all-wheel-drive TS040 has a 989 horsepower hybrid powertrain. Toyota has revised the aerodynamics package, reconfigured the suspension and made it lighter.
The TS040's hybrid technology works on the same conventional principle of regenerative braking due to mechanical brakes. However, this one is unique as it also delivers regenerative braking when the driver decelerates for a turn. The energy generated to the motor is stored in a super capacitor and when the car accelerates again, the stored energy is used up to deliver a boost in power.
