The future of Toyota has arrived and it’s called the Mirai. That’s the name of the Japanese automaker’s new fuel cell vehicle which is set to go on sale next year. Toyota, in fact, has announced that the Mirai will hit the showrooms in Japan in April 2015, followed by Europe and the US later during the year.
What makes the Mirai so special is the that it’s a four-door sedan that can cover up to 483km on a single tank of hydrogen and can be refuelled in under five minutes. Add water vapour as the only form of emission and you get a vehicle which is safer and greener than the existing lot of conventional sedans.
According to Toyota, the prototype models have survived millions of miles on test tracks and 10 years of testing on public roads in extreme hot and cold weather conditions. The company has even worked with local governments and researchers around the world to help make sure the vehicle is easy and convenient to refuel.
The Mirai will go sale in Japan first, with prices starting at 7 million yen, around Rs 37.20 lakh in Indian currency.
