Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has announced a recall which will include 44,989 units of the Innova to rectify a fault in the cable of the steering wheel. This includes Innovas manufactured from February 2005 to December 2008.
The company says that the Innovas rolled off the production line in that manufacturing cycle have a faulty cable mounted on the steering. This cable drives the airbag light on the instrument console to shine continuously. There is a fear that the airbag might not get activated and to avoid this, the company intends to rectify the issue as soon as possible.
Currently, the automaker is making necessary arrangements to provide replacement for the faulty parts. The company has confirmed that once the essential parts are sourced, the concerned customers will be contacted and provided replacement without any charges on an urgent basis. Dealers will carry out the necessary work and ensure that the fault is rectified free of cost.
Previously, Toyota had recalled 6,782 Corolla Altis and 167 units of the Prius Hybrid for similar issues. The problems with the Corolla Altis included the malfunctioning of the electrical contact module in the driver’s side power window switch and other problems in the FR drive shift in the diesel variants. The Prius Hybrids were recalled as part of a global exercise.
The company has been facing issues pertaining to labour concerns at its plant at Bidadi, Karnataka. The three week ordeal has resulted in a big downfall in sales for the manufacturer. Though this recall might further burden the manufacturer, we hope Toyota comes out of this dilemma soon. We are expecting the automaker to launch the Etios Cross and the all-new Corolla Altis this year.
