Toyota is gearing up to launch the much-awaited new-gen Fortuner for the Indian market. After a lot of uncertainty and host of speculations, it’s official that the SUV will be launched in India tomorrow.
The 2016 Fortuner is based on the new IMV platform and is considerably lighter than its predecessor. The car has evolved with the change in dimensions, new styling and addition of new features. Some of the highlights in the cabin include ambient lighting, a new touch screen infotainment system with navigation and smartphone compatibility. ABS and airbags will be offered as standard on all variants.
Power for the existing Fortuner comes from the 3.0-litre and 2.5-litre set of engines. This time, however, Toyota has updated the powertrain to a 2.8-litre GD diesel unit. Also for the first time, the SUV might get a petrol unit which it will share with the Innova Crysta. The engines will come mated to manual and automatic transmission options.
The highly awaited SUV has started arriving at dealerships as the variant-wise prices will be revealed tomorrow. With the new Fortuner being a notch above the current one in terms of design, powertrain and features, the new-gen SUV is expected to cost a pretty penny. However, knowing the Fortuner to be the best-seller in its segment, we can expect the new vehicle to maintain its legacy. It will be interesting to see how the high profile owners and prospective buyers appreciate the new generation Fortuner.
