Toyota has sold 280 units of the Camry Hybrid in the last 50 days. This is massive jump in the sales of the hybrid car considering that it sold 720 units in the whole of last year.
A facelifted version of the sedan was recently launched with a few cosmetic changes. Its debut was around the same time, the government of India announced the incentives on electric and hybrid vehicles under the FAME India Scheme. Both these factors seemed to have helped boost the sales of the car.
The FAME India scheme, 'Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric vehicles in India', was formulated mainly with an intention to promote eco-friendly vehicles in our country. This scheme is a part of the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan and due to this scheme the Camry Hybrid now gets a discount of Rs 70,000.
The Camry Hybrid is a product from Toyota that has always been in demand for quite some time now. It has been appreciated for its ideal combination of a luxury sedan and hybrid technology. Earlier, the Camry Hybrid accounted to 75 per cent of the total Camry sales in India and now this number has shot up to 80 per cent.
The Camry Hybrid is powered by a 2.5-litre, four-cylinder, VVT-I petrol engine paired to a 650V hybrid motor. While the petrol mill churns out 160bhp of power and 213Nm of torque, the electric motor is capable of producing 143bhp of power, giving out a combined output of 202bhp of power and 270Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to an E-CVT (electronically-controlled continuously variable transmission).
The car is currently assembled on a separate assembly line at TKM’s second facility in Bidadi, Bangalore. Toyota's hybrid cars are currently only manufactured/ assembled in nine countries around the world out of which India is one nation.
We believe that that this is aa good time for more manufacturers to get encouraged and consider bringing their hybrid vehicles to India Looking at the response for hybrid and electric vehicles, we hope the carmakers will bring in more cleaner and greener products like these to our country.
