Toyota has just revealed all-new versions of the Corolla, at the ongoing Guangzhou Auto Show in China. The new model is based on Toyota’s TNGA platform and will eventually be sold in the markets globally including North America, China, Japan and some European nations.Â
Sales in the United States and Europe are scheduled to start sometime around the middle of 2019. Toyota will introduce the new Corolla in China and Japan around the same time. The new models will gradually be rolled out in more than 150 countries and regions, including the start of sales of the new Corolla and Levin in China after mid-2019. In Japan, new sedan and wagon models, based on the Sporty model, will be optimized for Japanese customers and roads, with sales launch slated for within 2019.
Based on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA), the platform has been unified globally within the present 12th generation, including the hatchback model that went on sale earlier this year, and the wagon launched in regions such as Europe.Â
In terms of drivetrain, there will be several engine and gearbox options specific to a particular market. These will include the recently developed 2-litre petrol engine, Direct Shift-CVT and a 6-speed manual transmission. Hybrid models will be newly introduced in more than 90 countries and regions, playing a key role in the widespread adoption of electrified vehicles. The new models are also equipped with a high number of safety features with specifications refined for each market.Â
