Toyota GT86 is the Japanese car maker’s entry-level sports car. If rumours are to be true, then the company might be working on a new rear-wheel-drive sports car that will slot below the GT86.
According to the source, the entry-level sports car will weigh less 1000 kg and will be less than four metre long. The car might measure 3995mm in length, 1695mm in width, 1320mm in height and a wheelbase of 2480mm.
A 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine producing 130bhp and 145Nm of torque mated to a six-speed manual and automatic transmissions might do duty under the hood and it would be decently quick if actually weighs 980 kg.
There is no official confirmation from the company and if things turn out well, a concept car might be unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show next year.
Take it with a pinch of salt - the rumoured entry-level sports car qualifies for the excise concessions in India (barring the engine). Well, by now the prospect of owning a rear-wheel-drive sports car that’s as big as a Honda Amaze must have left you salivating. However, it would be a brilliant proposition and we hope Toyota might introduce it here.
