Toyota may launch a sportier and updated version of the Liva hatchback in a bid to boost its sales and increase interest in the car. The Liva has been on sale since June 2011 but has not been much of a seller despite having a very efficient diesel variant.
According to a report from the Economic Times, the most of major change for the Etios Liva is that it is now expected to get the 1.5-litre petrol engine from the Etios sedan. This engine produces 90bhp and 132Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the wheels via a five-speed manual.
Other expected changes to the car include a re-tuned suspension, bigger wheels and brakes. The interior is expected to get new set of plastics, switch gear and a revised design in what looks like response to the criticism that the interiors of the Liva were too bland.
However, Sandeep Singh, deputy managing director and COO (marketing and commercial) has refused to comment on the issue. All he said was that the company was currently working on multiple products and did not wish to comment on them in detail.
