Toyota is likely to offer airbags for all models of the Innova. This means every single car in the Japanese automaker’s range will now come fitted with airbags. The Etios Liva and sedan, which are their entry- level models, already get airbags and ABS as standard fitment across the range.
The only catch in this is that the base G variant will only be offered with a single airbag in a bid to keep costs to a minimum. The addition of the airbags is expected to increase the price of the Innova by Rs 40,000 across the range.
The company has already announced its intentions to make its vehicles safer and thus had made airbags and ABS standard for the Etios sedan and Liva. It seems that Toyota is thinking at least a year ahead with regard to the implementation of the new safety norms which the Centre is pushing for and look to put in place by 2017.
