The facelifted Toyota Innova was launched for the Indonesian market last month and it is expected that we (India), the Innova’s other big market, will get the facelifted version of the MPV next month. It is also likely that the Japanese automaker will introduce a new flagship Z variant with an optional five-speed automatic transmission borrowed from the Fortuner SUV.
The facelifted Innova takes the bling-bling factor to a whole new level thanks to its large chrome grille, chrome side strips and massive chrome lining above the number plate, all in a bid to give the Innova a more premium appeal.
Inside, the top spec Z variant Innova (if it going to be launched) gets a new touch screen system with a monitor for the rear seats, beige upholstery, captain seats in the second row, steering mounted audio controls and dual airbags in the front.
The engine line up is not expected to change for the facelifted model and this means the 2.0-litre 132PS petrol unit and the 2.5-litre 101PS diesel engine will keep its place on the new model along with the five speed manual gearbox and the rear-wheel drive powertrain. However, Indonesia now gets all the variants with the five-speed automatic gearbox from the Fortuner and it is likely that at least one AT variant will be offered for the Indian market this time around.
We expect that Toyota will only have minor price revisions for the Innova with the top spec Z diesel variant (if it is launched) costing at least Rs 40,000 more than the current VX eight-seater diesel engined variant.
