Toyota India ended 2015 with annual sales of nearly 1.4 lakh cars and by doing so, the company recorded a cumulative growth of 5 per cent compared to the same period last year. For the record, Toyota sold 139,815 units in 2015, as against 132,673 units sold in 2014.
As for sales in December 2015 alone, Toyota shipped a total of 10,883 units. This includes 10,442 units in the domestic market and 441 units in exports. The monthly sales were considerably affected due to the provisional ban on registration of 2-litre plus diesel vehicles in Delhi & NCR where the Innova and the Fortuner share great presence. Furthermore, the sales were also hit due to the floods in Chennai.
While the Innova and the Fortuner continue to be hot sellers for Toyota in India, the Camry also did well in the entry-level luxury sedan space. Although sold in small numbers, the sedan recorded a growth of 42 per cent in 2015 compared to the same period last year.
A cumulative growth of 5 per cent in 2015 may not sound like much but there is no denying the fact that the figure would have been higher if Toyota didn’t have to face few challenges like the ban and the flood situation in Chennai.
