The Volkswagen Polo Cross rivalling Toyota Etios Cross has been spied in Brazil sans camouflage. Much like the Cross Polo, it is a beefed up version of the standard hatchback with external embellishments to give it a rugged look.
The hatchback gets plastic body cladding with silver inserts on the bumpers, slightly taller wheels which by the look of it will be specific to this model. It also gets roof rails with luggage holding braces. In terms of interiors, we expect that the Etios Cross will stay exactly the same as the standard car except maybe for the badging and colour of the upholstery.
The report from Car and Driver suggest that this version of the Etios will be powered by the 1.5-litre petrol mill that produces 90PS and 132Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox and of course this being Brazil, it will be tuned to run on Bio fuel too. In India this is the same engine that powers the TRD Sportivo variant of the Liva hatchback.
We in India should get this car once it is launched in Brazil as it will give Toyota a direct entry into the rapidly expanding crossover market. However, this being India, we will mostly get a diesel engined version.
