Toyota has launched India-made Etios Cross in South Africa for a price of 159,800 Rand (approximately Rs 8.99lakh). The car will join the Etios hatchback and the sedan in the South African range of cars.
The Etios Cross for the South African market is the same car recently launched in India. Much like the Volkswagen Cross Polo, the Etios Cross is a beefed up version of the Etios hatchback. Equipped with a body kit that includes new bumpers, roof-rails and plastic side mouldings, the car also gets diamond cut alloy wheels. The changes inside the cabin include a black theme with a piano-black center console. The seats get 'Cross' badging and since the Cross is only available as a top-end variant, dual airbags, ABS and EBD are offered as standard.
Though the Etios Cross is available in three engine options in India, the South African market will get only the 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 89bhp of power and 132Nm of torque. This motor comes mated to a five speed manual transmission. In India, the Etios Cross comes in two more engine options, a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.4-litre diesel.
The Etios range was created for developing countries and currently the Etios sedan and hatchback are enjoying a good demand in South Africa. Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM) has started exporting the Etios Cross to the country and we hope the car also enjoys a good demand there.
