We have caught the 2020 Toyota Corolla sedan while testing in Southern California, but this time with significantly less camouflage.
The new Corolla will ride on the new TNGA modular platform that Toyota has put under the Prius and Camry. Exterior styling up front mimics the recently debuted Corolla hatchback, while outback the Corolla sedan appears to borrow design cues from the current Ford Fusion. A couple notable differences are the addition of a small window near the a-pillar, and a revised c-pillar. The overall size and greenhouse appear to remain unchanged from current levels (although the hatchback wheelbase grew 1.6 inches).
Inside, however, there will be a more prominent screen and new controls intended to elevate perceived quality, a shortcoming on the current car. For the SE trim (hatchback, we assume the same will apply to the sedan), standard Entune 3.0 Audio includes eight-inch touchscreen with six speakers, Apple CarPlay, and Amazon Alexa integration. Standard amenities will include single-zone automatic climate control, leather shift knob, paddle shifters located behind the steering wheel, electronic parking brake, SmartKey system, along with two front USB outlets.
Power will come from the new 2-litre direct injected four-cylinder with either a CVT or a six-speed manual transmission.
Corollas that were initially expected to come from Mexico will now be sourced from Mississippi and a new plant in Alabama. Mazda will also share capacity at the new Alabama plant.
