The next generation Innova for the Indian market scheduled to be unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo will be called the Innova Crysta as per a leaked presentation. This will be the second generation for the Japanese automaker’s ultra-successful MPV and this surname name suggests that the automaker will sell both generations side-by-side.
However, this is not the first time that Toyota has used the Innova Crysta nameplate. It launched a limited edition of the MPV in 2011 with this name. This new generation for the Innova is a major overhaul and includes a revised interior and exterior design, feature list as well as engines and gearboxes. It is also underpinned by a new ladder-on-frame platform.
The new design elements include projector headlamps, alloy wheels, touchscreen infotainment system, multi-zone climate control and leather seats. The engine options are expected to include a 2.4-litre diesel and a 2.0-litre petrol. Both will be offered with a six-speed manual or a six-speed AT.
Given the massive jump that the Innova makes with this generation, we expect the top-spec models to breach the Rs 20 lakh mark. When launched, this new Innova will compete with the likes of the Renault Lodgy and Chevrolet Spin.
