These are spy shots of the next generation Toyota Camry. This saloon is currently being developed in North America.
Toyota’s upcoming eighth gen Camry has a lot resting on its shoulders. It’s a model that has been a huge success in the saloon segment, especially in the USA for quite some time now. We have to admit that the camouflage job shown in the pictures disclose nothing except for the unmistakeable silhouette. Some design attributes that caught our eye include a rear section which depicts a sharper C-pillar leading to a smaller boot.
Speculation has it that the new Camry is likely to be based largely on the TNGA platform (Toyota New Global Architecture) and share underpinnings with the Prius. If this turns out to be true, weight will see a drop while rigidity should go up considerably. Though specifics are sketchy at the moment, this Camry is expected to get a four cylinder 2.5-litre VVT petrol motor in addition to other iterations. A hybrid version is also highly likely to make it to the line-up.
While this Camry is slated to be the 2018 model in North America, it may debut in the last quarter of 2016 or early 2017. Going by this timeframe we can safely expect Toyota India to get the latest Camry to our shores in the last quarter of 2017.
