The electrics are coming and manufacturers are already getting ready to dish out the EVs. We had reported about Toyota and Suzuki forming an alliance earlier this year and you can read about it here.
And now they are all set to put the alliance to use after announcing to sell electric vehicles in India by 2020. According to the MoU, Suzuki will produce the electric vehicles and supply some to Toyota, which will provide technical support. The brands will also be conducting a survey for the widespread acceptance and use of EVs in India.
The Indian government earlier had announced plans to promote a transition from internal combustion engines to battery-powered ones. Suzuki has already announced that it will build a lithium-ion battery plant in Gujarat. The companies will also plan to locally produce and get all the components required including the battery pack, electric motors and other essential parts.
