Top Five Electric Super Cars at 2017 Geneva Motor Show

The Geneva Motor Show is the biggest, most coveted show of the year, where major automotive manufacturers come on a level playing field with small scale and unknown car makers. The Geneva stage brings out the best of these one-off carmakers and with the shifting trends towards electrification, that’s the way to go. Although they are a tad outrageous and ambitious, here are the top five electric supercars from the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.

    Vanda Electrics Dendrobium

Vanda Electric has created the first ever ‘two-seater all-electric sports car concept’ to be spawned from Singapore. It is called the Dendrobium since the unique roof and doors resemble a fully-opened Dendrobium flower native to Singapore. Though strictly in concept stage, if the Dendrobium goes into production, it targets a top speed in excess of 325kmph and a 0-100kmph time of 2.7seconds. The two inboard axle-mounted electric motors are powered by a lithium ion-battery which was developed in-house. The first model is expected to hit the road by 2020.

    Techrules Ren

The Chinese automaker, Techrules has showcased its first ever turbine-electric supercar. Christened as Ren, the supercar makes use of an unconventional Turbine-Recharging Electric Vehicle (TREV) technology. The Ren is designed by renowned automotive designer Giorgetto Giugiaro and his son Fabrizio. The powertrain can be tailor-made. However, the flagship version comes with a 25kWh battery powering two motors at the front and four at the rear with a combined power output of 1,280bhp and a whopping 2,340Nm of torque. Techrules intends to begin production of the Ren in 2018.

    Artega Scalo Superelletra

This is possibly the most understated looking electric car in the list, perhaps because it is German. The resurrected Artega Automobil brand showcased the Scalo Concept in 2015. Following that, the German automaker showcased the Scalo Superelletra. Power comes from two electric motors up front and another two at the rear, producing a combined output of 1,006bhp and 1,620Nm. With a range of 500km and a top speed of 300kmph, the electric supercar will go on sale in 2019 with limited production of 50 units.

    Pininfarina H600

Pininfarina has always been the by-word for gorgeous and sporty European cars. However, this year, the Mahindra-owned design house  showcased a ‘luxury sedan concept’ made in collusion with the China-based Hybrid Kinetic Group. The name H600 is as unexciting as it looks. The Luxo-barge is powered by an all-electric powertrain which delivers 800+bhp, accelerating the 1.8tonne sedan to 100kmph in a supercar-rivalling 2.9seconds. The range is no more a problem says the company since the micro turbine generator will power the motor/battery on the go.

    Nanoflowcell Quant 48Volt

Nanoflowcell has been developing an alternative powertrain for quite some time now. The latest development powers the Quant 48Volt concept. It is a unique ‘flow cell’ technology, in which a liquid ionic fuel generates electricity in the battery which is fed to four electric motors. Power figures read 750bhp and the 2+2 car will do 0-100kmph in 2.4seconds and onwards with no loss of acceleration to electronically limited top speed of 300kmph. The future of this unconventional technology remains uncertain.
