Every motor show around the world introduces us to new concept cars – some of which evolve to become production cars and some of which give us a glimpse into the manufacturer’s vision of the future. With Geneva Motor Show being the most coveted platform in the automotive world, manufacturers get back to their drawing board to giveus a glimpse of what they have in store in the future. Here are the top five interesting concepts from Geneva that stole the show.
Peugeot Instinct Concept
The Instinct Concept is an insight into what can be expected from the French automaker over the next few years. The foretaste of the new design philosophy is prominent in the massive signature Peugeot grille. The four doors open in a suicidal fashion (hinges on the rear). Sleek LED headlamps, bulging hood and flared wheel arches adds character to this car. The Instinct also showcases Peugeot’s autonomous technology and electric –hybrid powertrain and could be a preview to the next generation of two-door sports cars from the French automaker.
Audi Q8 Sports Concept
Audi’s new flagship SUV will be spawned from the Q8 Concept showcased last year. The Q8 Sports Concept hints at a sportier version, SQ8 perhaps. Powering it is a 3.0-litre petrol engine in tandem with the EPC technology from the beastly SQ7. A combined power of 470bhp and 700Nm is channeled through quattro four-wheel-drive system. Audi claims a 0-100kmph time of 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 275kmph. With the body kit, the car looks more aggressive augmented by carbonfibre and RS treatment. When launched, this car will be the new flagship from Ingolstadt.
Bentley EXP 12 Speed 6e Concept
Bentley has utilised the Geneva platform to demonstrate its intentions of pioneering the electric luxury segment by showcasing an opulent EXP 12 Speed 6e Concept which showcases Bentley’s exterior and interior design direction. Bentley is keen on entering the electric vehicle sector in its future portfolio and will make use of the EXP 12 Speed 6e concept to get feedback from its customers to shape its upcoming luxury electric car strategy. Bentley’s electrification push would include PHEV models in the coming year, with the Bentayga leading the charge from next year.
Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Concept
Mercedes-AMG decided to add two more doors to a sports coupe. The AMG GT Concept showcased at Geneva had a sacrilege of four doors and four seats. Though it’s more practical and still beautiful given its AMG GT’s profile, the car is on the verge of being treated the same way as Porsche’s introduction of the four-door Panamera. Powered by an 805bhp 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine in conjunction with the big electric motors, this car could face a healthy rivalry from the likes of Aston Martin Rapide or the Ferrari FF.
Infiniti Q60 Project Black S Concept
Infiniti Project Black S explores the potential for a new performance vertical, backed by the technology inspired by Formula One. Based on the Infinity Q60, the concept is pumped up with aerodynamic kits and aggressive styling, especially in that deadly black paint finish. Its performance hybrid powertrain with Formula 1 scrounged technology (like ERS) is sourced from Renault Sport Formula One Team. With the Project Black S, Infiniti intends to bring a unique road-ready performance hybrid powertrain. And the Q60 Project Black S looks pretty awesome too.
