Top-end variant of facelifted Mahindra Scorpio spied

Mahindra has been testing the facelifted Scorpio continuously in various regions of India. This time, again, within a week's time, our spy-photographers sighted another test mule of the revamped vehicle in Maharashtra.

These clear images of the disguised vehicle, for the very first time, reveal the front logo. Mahindra had managed to camouflage the car well, but due to high speeds, the front wrap has come off revealing the logo. This test vehicle doesn't seem to be production ready as the front bumper and head lamps are makeshift components to make the vehicle road legal. The vehicle gets redesigned alloy wheels and the wiper at the rear makes us believe that this is the top-end variant of the Scorpio.

The spy photographers confirmed that the interiors have been tweaked and the most evident change is the steering wheel borrowed from the XUV 500. The instrument panel gets silver accents and a small rectangular digital screen in between. We expect Mahindra to improve the quality of the materials used in the cabin and pack the car with a whole load of new features.

Apart from these cosmetic changes, the carmaker might make some mechanical changes to the facelifted Scorpio. The fact that the car was doing speeds in excess of 120kmph quite easily on the highway makes us postulate that this updated vehicle is not just limited to a cosmetic upgrade. The company might have retuned the 120bhp 2.2-litre mHawk turbo diesel mill that currently powers the present Scorpio. The engine noise has been reduced and the stability while making manoeuvres too seems to have improved.

It's been quite some time now since Mahindra has been testing different test mules of the new Scorpio. The car has been spotted earlier with emission testing equipment attached to the rear. The number of comprehensive tests being conducted might imply the company wants to make the best possible efforts to develop the product extensively before they launch it in the Indian market. The Mahindra Scorpio has aged well and this might be the last update the company might make before bringing in a totally new product. We expect Mahindra to launch the revised Scorpio within a couple of months.
