Three cars from the top five selling sedans last month are the sub-four metre compact sedans. The overall C segment sales in India have also gone up considerably due to them. Upgrading from small cars to bigger cars does take a considerable hike in a buyer's budget. There was a time when consumers had no choice but choose a car from the C segment, but not now. Thanks to the introduction of the compact sedans, a buyer can have a sedan at an affordable price due to the excise benefit these compact vehicles get. Let’s have a look at the top five best-selling sedans in India.
The Dzire tops this list and continues to be the highest selling car in the sedan segment. The company sold 16,790 units of the Dzire Tour and Dzire compact sedan last month making it zoom ahead of all mid-size segment cars in terms of sales. The car is known for its contemporary styling, comfort, convenient features, safety, competitive performance and pricing.
Despite the advent of compact sedans, the Honda City still is a preferred choice for consumers upgrading to the mid-size sedan segment of cars. The carmaker sold 6,366 units of the vehicle last month as the demand for the sedan is still stable. Ever since its inception in 1998, the Honda City has been a favourite amongst car buyers in India. The Japanese manufacturer has taken the game up with the launch of the fourth generation of the car in our country.
Number 3 in the list is the Hyundai Xcent which was launched on March 12, 2014 in India. It came as a replacement to the second generation Accent and since then it has created quite a sensation in the Indian market. The Korean manufacturer sold 4,528 units of the sedan last month showing a 41.4 per cent rise in sales as compared to the numbers in December 2014. Carrying over the styling elements and features of the successful Grand i10, the Xcent provides additional boot space at an affordable price tag.
Toyota sold 3,168 units of the Etios last month slotting it in the fourth position in the list. It is the oldest car in this list, but the carmaker has made constant upgrades to the car keeping in mind the changing lifestyle preferences of customers. The car offers good cabin space and also has a big boot space. It is also a pretty popular choice among taxi buyers and fleet operators.
Apart from the City, the Amaze is one among the top-selling models of Honda Car India. The carmaker has managed to save the excise duty by keeping the length of the Amaze under four metres, eventually being able to price it very competitively. Though a sub-four-metre compact sedan, there is enough space inside the cabin and a good boot space of 400litres. It’s also quite popular for the diesel model and an overall sales of 2,933 units of the car last month, helped it make it to the top five list.
