1.Maruti Suzuki Brezza
The Brezza was launched in 2016 and even three years later in 2019, it seems undefeatable when it comes to urban SUVs. The Brezza received a facelift in 2018 and more importantly an AMT gearbox too, which seems to have pushed its sales even further. With 11,620 units sold in Feb 2019, it is at the top of the charts yet again. The Brezza only gets a 1.3-litre diesel engine with 89bhp and the 200Nm of torque and gets a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
Another blockbuster from Hyundai, the Creta too like the Brezza received an update in 2018 where it got a few design changes and additional features. The Creta has been selling like hotcakes ever since its launch. In fact it sold 10,206 units in Feb 2019 which is 10 percent more as compared to Feb 2018. That shows that the demand for the Creta just isn’t diminishing. The Creta gets a range of engine and gearbox options which include a 1.4-litre diesel with a 6-speed manual, 1.6-litre petrol with a 6-speed manual/auto and a 1.6-litre diesel with 6-speed auto/manual.
The Tata Nexon has been a game changer for Tata Motors. Offering a radical design and packed with a bunch of features, the Nexon is one of Tata’s bestsellers. The Nexon hasn’t received a facelift yet but thanks to some well-packaged special editions, it managed 5263 units in Feb 2019. And when you compare to the figures in Feb 2018, the Nexon has seen a very healthy 26 per cent jump in sales. The Nexon comes with a 1.2-litre, turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine and both get 6-speed manual and 6-speed AMT options.
Mahindra’s latest compact SUV has made it into the list as well. The XUV 3OO brings plenty of style strong engine options and a bucket-load of features to the table. At 4484 units, this seems like a good start for the baby Mahindra although it’s still too early to predict it as a winner. The baby XUV gets a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and a stonking 1.5-litre diesel engine putting out 115bhp and 300Nm, making it the most powerful compact SUV in its class. For now the XUV 3OO does not get an AT option and once it does, it should help the numbers grow further.
The car that revived Ford in India and defined the compact SUV segment, the Ford EcoSport finishes the list coming in at number 5. The EcoSport got a major overhaul in 2017 with updated looks, more features and new Dragon and Ecoboost petrol engines which made it a much more compelling buy. The competition however seems to have caught up and with 3156 units in Feb 2019, it has just about made it to this list. The sales seems to have plummeted especially when you have a look at the sales figures in Feb 2018 which were at a very healthy 5438 units. The EcoSport comes with a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine with 5-speed MT/6-speed AT, 1-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol with 6-speed MT and a 1.5-litre diesel with a 5-speed MT.
