While it was hatchbacks earlier, the number game has now shifted to the SUV segment. We take a look at the top 5 SUV's that raked in the numbers in July 2018
1. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza - 14181 units
So compared to July 2017, Brezza sales are down by 17 per cent, but even then Maruti's compact SUV is still outselling the competition by a huge margin. The Brezza has remained largely unchanged since its launch in 2016 and has only received an infotainment update and more recently and importantly an AMT gearbox. But it still has enough up its sleeve to stay ahead of the newer competition. The Maruti badge along with a fun to drive character and now with an AT option as well have kept Brezza sales ahead of the curve.
2. Hyundai Creta - 10423 units
The sales figures for the Vitara Brezza and the Hyundai Creta tell us a lot of things. People prefer their SUV's more on the conventional side and loaded with features. The Creta has been a revelation as far as Hyundai is concerned and despite it commanding a higher price tag than the Brezza has managed to sell an astounding 10423 units. Compared to sales in july 2017, Creta sales are down by just a negligible 1 per cent. The Creta just recieved its midlife update which includes design updates and new features as well. The numbers suggest the Creta is a much loved SUV and Hyundai is doing everything right with it.
3. Maruti Suzuki S-Cross - 5308 units
The S-Cross is a story of the perfect turn around. A look at the figures from last year see's the S-Cross struggling at 2895 units. But we know how well Maruti read the Indian consumers. So out comes the facelift, the expensive but delightful 1.6-litre axed from the line-up and boom, the S-Cross is now a hit. With 5308 units sold in July 2018, the crossover's sales have grown by a humongous 83 per cent. With an aggressive design, plenty of space and all the features one needs, the S-Cross has suddenly become a Maruti success story.
4. Ford Ecosport - 4040 units
The Ecosport has always been Ford's front-runner when it comes to sales and Ford has been banking on the compact SUV forever now. Yes compared July 2017, sales have taken a hit but thanks to the facelift model coming out, it's not by much, 8 per cent to be exact. July 2018 saw Ford sell 4040 units which brings it 4th in this list. Ford's trying its best with the new Ecosport offering as many as 3 engine options along with automatic variants on offer as well.
5. Mahindra Scorpio - 3876 units
Narrowing edging out the Tata Nexon for 5th place is the mighty Mahindra Scorpio. As mentioned before people want their SUV's to be muscular and butch and nothing says that better than the Scorpio. It has all the presence one needs from an SUV and is pretty powerful too. Sales compared to July 2017 are down by 12 per cent but still holding steady at 3876 units even though the Scorpio hasn't received any new updates.
