The car market in India has been expanding rapidly both in terms of numbers and choices for buyers and one of these new avenues is affordable sporty cars. Fun to drive, big on looks and most likely with a famous badge, these machines are catering to a new set of young buyers who want a little extra for their money. Ford was one of the first to start this trend with the Fiesta S nearly a decade ago and it has now re-entered the fray with a segment first - the Aspire Sports. This is the first sporty compact sedan in India and gets a whole bunch of bits and bobs to match its sporty tag. Here then are the top four things that put S in the Ford Aspire Sports.
Sports suspension
Ford says that it has fitted the Aspire Sports with a Sports suspension which should make the already fun car a bit more fun to drive. This has been one of the hallmarks of Figo family and it looks like the legacy has been carried over. Also this was the way we got the Fiesta S, and so it only seems right that Ford did the same here too.
15-inch sporty alloy wheels
Nothing says sporty intentions like the set of sporty wheels which Ford has fitted to the Aspire S. These are multi-spoke 15 inch five star units and have a design quite similar to what we saw on the 2014 Fiesta for the Indian market.
Blacked out grille and stickers
Complementing the wheels are a blacked out grille and some fancy stickers on the side. The grille is quite similar to what is offered on the black package as well as the Figo Sports while the ‘S’ stickers have been placed near the edge of the rear door and are contrast-coloured to the paint of the compact sedan.
All-black interior
The car is based on the top-of-the-line Titanium variant and gets all the features that Ford offers in this price range. The only exception here is that the whole cabin in the new version has been trimmed out in all-black as opposed to beige and black in the standard car. Also adding to the ‘S’ quotient is contrast stitching on the gear knob and on the seats.
Just to recap, the Ford Aspire Sports is available in India in two variants- petrol and diesel. They are priced at Rs 6.50 lakh and Rs 7.60 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) respectively. The petrol variant makes use of the 1.2-litre unit while the diesel is the 1.5-litre unit. It can be had across seven different colour options.
