The year is almost at an end and as the last few days of 2018 are arriving, we are compiling a list of the most popular cars that have been researched on our website. In this story we are looking at the A-segment. This was once the mainstay of automakers and everyone wanted a piece of the massive action present here. However, today there has been shift in buyer preferences to the next segment of cars but that has not waned our demand for these cost effective and cheerful micros. The shift in segment is an indicative that these numbers are not expected to grow significantly but will not diminish either in the coming few years.
4. Tata Nano- 76,222
Tata’s budget car for the masses may not have taken off as much as Tata wanted it to (despite so many upgrades and refreshes) but it’s still a popular search among buyers. With the likely possibility that the car may soon enter the history books, there’s been a renewed interest in the car. We suspect that part of this may be due to curiosity and partly due to the car being offered with significant deals. Nonetheless, the Nano takes fourth place in our list with 76,222 enquires.
3. Datsun Redigo- 2.54 lakhs
The Tata Nano may be going away soon but miles and kilometres ahead is the rest of the pack and on the bottom step of the podium is the Datsun Redigo with 2.54 lakh enquires. With its funky looks and peppy engine set, the Redigo has been the volumes driver for the Japanese automaker. The most popular of the lot appears to the two-pedal variants of the hatchback.
2. Maruti Alto 800- 7.6 lakhs
If the Redigo’s numbers are a significant jump from the Nano then the stalwart of the segment- the Alto 800 has leapt into the sky and taken off. Standing at 7.6 lakh enquires, the Alto 800 has been around in one form or another and generates significant volumes for the Indo-Japanese automaker. However, as compared to 2017 (3.06 lakhs), the Alto 800 as a brand has a made a significant leap.
1. Renault Kwid- 9.25 lakhs
The car that Renault built and developed to take on the Maruti Alto family is now set in its place in terms of buyer interest. There’s been 9.25 lakh enquires for the car this year and this has been across the range. The Kwid can be had with an 800cc engine or a 1.0-litre unit and in the case of the latter it gets an AMT too. The Kwid looks to have jumped over the Alto series of cars thanks its SUV-like body style that’s now all the rage in the car market.
