The B-segment hatchbacks have been the bread and butter for most leading car manufacturers in India. The petrol version has always been a major contributor to the overall sales numbers, especially due to uncertainty over diesel norms in the near future. Speaking of B-segment hatchback, we have shortlisted four fuel-efficient petrol cars with a manual transmission in India, namely – Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Ford Figo and the Datsun GO. Maruti Suzuki Swift
Maruti Suzuki Swift has always been a popular choice in the segment. Known for its impressive looks and low running cost, the Swift is also the most fuel-efficient car on our list. The petrol hatchback with a five-speed manual transmission has an ARAI fuel efficiency of 21.21kmpl. Maruti Suzuki Swift is powered by a BS-6 compliant 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine that generates 82bhp at 6000rpm and 113Nm of torque at 4200rpm.
Hyundai Grand i10 Nios
This is the second BS-6 compliant vehicle on our list. The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios is the latest model to carry on the i10 legacy. One of the popular selling models for Hyundai, the Grand i10 Nios is powered by a BS-VI compliant 1.2-litre, four-cylinder engine that produces 81bhp at 6000rpm and 114Nm at 4000rpm. The updated petrol engine has ARAI fuel efficiency of 20.7kmpl, which makes it the second best fuel-efficient car on our list.
Ford Figo
Earlier this year Ford introduced the updated Figo in India. The hatchback was introduced with a BS-4 compliant 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 95bhp at 6500rpm and 120Nm of torque at 4250rpm. This engine has ARAI fuel efficiency figure of 20.4kmpl. Ford is expected to introduce a BS-6 compliant engine before the 1 April 2020 deadline. The Figo also has a bigger 1.5-litre petrol engine which gets six-speed torque converter as standard.
Datsun GO
Datsun introduced the updated GO in October last year. Like the Ford Figo, the Datsun GO also due for a BS-6 upgrade ahead of the 1 April 2020 deadline. Limited to a petrol engine, the GO is powered by a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine that generates 67bhp at 5000rpm and 104Nm of torque at 4000rpm. This engine has ARAI fuel efficiency of 19.83kmpl. The fuel efficiency is, however, likely to change with the BS-6 update.
