Car sales in October 2018 did not exactly set the sales chart on fire and that for various reasons that you can read in detail over here. But there were still performers who did the best in their segments. We take a look at the top 10 most popular cars that were sold in Oct 2018.
1. Maruti Suzuki Alto – 22,180 units
A familiar name in the top spot, the Maruti Alto still ruled the number one spot in October selling 22,180 units taking the Swifts spot which was number one in September 2018. The Alto’s basic approach with no frills, reliability and fix anywhere qualities has been keeping it at the top for a long time now.
2. Maruti Suzuki Baleno – 18,657 units
The Baleno was a hit right from the word go and continues to be a favourite when it comes to premium sedans. At 18,657 units, the Baleno has outsold even the newer Swift. Available in petrol diesel and the performance RS trim, means the Baleno is available for a wide spectrum of buyers.
3. Maruti Suzuki Dzire – 17,404 units
Leading the compact segment charge is Maruti Suzuki’s Dzire. At 17,404 cars, the Dzire outsold the Swift too albeit by a small margin. Maruti has got it pretty much bang on with the Dzire offering good fuel efficiency, plenty of features and a spacious cabin and buyers just cannot get enough of it.
4. Maruti Suzuki Swift – 17,215 units
Surprisingly the Swift did not get a podium place and finished in 4th place, selling 17,215 cars in October 2018. We think the new Swift is in its best avatar yet boasting good looks and a very appealing cabin, but maybe the Baleno’s more premium appeal and the added boot space offered by the Dzire gave them an upper hand over the Swift.
5. Maruti Suzuki Brezza – 15,832 units
The SUV that put Maruti Suzuki at the top of the SUV/MUV category came in at number 5 with 15,832 cars being sold in October 2018. The Brezza has been churning out consistent numbers year after year with no signs of slowing down. With a recent facelift that added more features and more importantly now available in a diesel AMT version, Maruti has made sure that the Brezza stays appealing.
6. Hyundai Elite i20 – 13,290 units
Finally a non-Maruti at number 6, the Hyundai i20 took the number six spot for October 2018 with 13,290 cars being sold. Let’s face it, the i20 is a little long in the tooth now even with the recently received facelift. But nevertheless it’s still one of the best equipped and not to mention one of the best looking cars in its class.
7. Hyundai Grand i10 – 11,820 units
Coming in at number seven is the Hyundai Grand i10 with 11,820 units. The Grand i10 has always been a popular compact hatch and Hyundai’s timely updates has made sure it is consistently in the top ten list. The update last year gave the Grand i10 some visual updates and a new 1.2-litre diesel engine.
8. Hyundai Creta – 11,702 units
The third Hyundai in the list, the Hyundai Creta came in at number 8 with 11,702 units sold. Now the Creta isn’t exactly cheap with prices starting at Rs. 9.5 lakh and going upwards of Rs. 15 lakh for the top end diesel but even then coming in at number 8 speaks volumes about its popularity. With a wide variety of variants and engine/transmission options there is a Creta for every buyer.
9. Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R – 10,655 units
The ubiquitous Wagon-R has slipped down to the number nine spot. The Wagon-R is due for a much needed update which we hope will happen sometime in 2019. Until then we won’t be surprised if moves out of the top ten list.
10. Maruti Celerio – 9,260 units
Rounding up the top ten is another Maruti, the Celerio which sold 9,260 units in October 2018. The Celerio has always been a practical compact hatchback from Maruti and was the first to get an AMT transmission for the petrol engine. Maruti recently launched the Celerio X variant which got the numbers going for it.
