It is always interesting to get a glimpse of what car manufacturers have in store for us in future. We bring you an assortment of top 10 vehicles spotted undergoing tests from around the globe last month.
Chevrolet Camaro
The entire 2019 Chevrolet Camaro line-up was spotted outside Milford Proving Grounds testing facility, last week. More of a mid-cycle update, the Camaro ZL1, 1LT, SS coupe and the SS convertible will get revised front and rear bumpers. Even the headlamp and tail lamps have been redesigned.
Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Convertible
Chevrolet’s supercar, the Corvette ZR1 Convertible, is expected to follow suit after the unveiling of the hardtop coupe later this year. It gets the same flowing body lines and the rear wing as the coupe. At the heart should be a new LT5 V8 engine delivering roundabout 700 horsepower.
Chrysler 300 Hellcat
The skunkworks division of Chrysler is coming up with a new performance-focussed version of its sedan – the Chrysler 300 Hellcat. It gets meatier tyres and a body kit over the SRT version, with a 100 horsepower 6.2-litre V8 under the hood.
Dodge Challenger Hellcat
The other FCA car to get the Hellcat treatment is the Dodge Challenger. The Dodge Challenger Hellcat was spotted testing in the US with a wide body kit and meatier tyres. While it does resemble the Dodge Demon, the Dodge Challenger Hellcat might be a tamer version of the drag-spec car for those wishing for a 700 horsepower every day ride.
Ford Ranger
The Ford Ranger was spotted undergoing cold weather testing a few weeks ago in the US. Based on an updated version of the T6 platform, the new Ranger is expected to get a design language similar to the new F-150. Among the powertrain options would be an EcoBoost engine with a 10-speed transmission.
Ford Shelby GT500
A heavily disguised Ford Shelby GT500 was spied in the US. So secretive is Ford about the new GT500, that they even blocked a view of the 20-inch alloy wheels. However, the absence of the rear wing, 305-profile tyres and the beefy front fascia give away the GT500’s identity.
Jeep Wrangler Pick-up
FCA is looking to make use of the Wrangler platform to roll out a new truck. While this plan was always an open secret, our photographers managed to get a clear spy shot of a test mule for the first time. Cosmetics are identical to the Wrangler, though rear section gets an extended pick-up bay.
Subaru BRZ STI
While the 205 horsepower BRZ can, by itself, prove to be a handful for some, Subaru is now working on a performance-focussed version called the Subaru BRZ STI. There is not much of a surprise here as the BRZ STI looks identical to the concept shown at Tokyo Auto Salon. What’s under the hood though, is a mystery.
Hyundai Veloster
It has been six years since the quirky Hyundai Veloster went on sale, and the sports coupe is now due for an update. Featuring major styling changes and a new set of wheels, the Veloster is expected to go on sale late next year. Under the hood would be the same 1.6-litre turbo petrol and 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engines.
US Presidential Limo
This not something that we come across every day. The US President’s official limousine, the Beast was spotted undergoing trials in the US. Getting finer details about the Beast is futile, you cannot expect the government to release information about it for obvious reasons. Nevertheless, our sources do tell us that it gets a cold storage to keep vials of the President’s blood.
