Tata Motors had been witnessing a steadily downfall in the overall sales between the years 2012 - 2015. This has resulted in the company dropping from its third largest passenger vehicle position in the country to fifth position. However, this time around, the recently launched Tiago hatchback is turning fortunes for the company with its impressive sales figures.
In the last few years, many automakers have entered the Indian market with fresh models thereby overshadowing Tata’s popular selling products like the Indica and Sumo. The recently launched Tiago from Tata Motors sports a new-age design language and comes with modern technological upgrades, thereby helping the company to regain its lost share in the Indian market. Back in September, Tata Motors sold 16,351 passenger vehicles, thereby registering a year-on-year rise of about 21 per cent. On the other hand, the sales of Honda Car India stood at 15,034 units, which is down by 19 per cent from the 18,509 units sold the same period in 2015.
Though recently the company had hiked the Tiago prices by about Rs 7,000, it has not affected the demand for the vehicle. Reports indicate that the company currently has over 50,000 bookings and the waiting period has stretched up to three months. With future upcoming vehicles like Hexa, Nexon and the Kite 5 sedan, the company aims at claiming the third or higher position by 2020. Backed by the JLR technology, the company is likely to witness a steady growth in the coming days.
