It has been less than three months since the launch of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class and already the German automaker has received a barrage of orders, more than 30,000, for it. Last year they received a total of 65,000 orders for its flagship S-Class.
The large order is quite surprising considering that the auto industry in general is going through a bad phase because of the shaky economy. But for a car that starts at USD 92,000 (Rs 56.44 lakh) it’s a huge deal.
Ola Kallenius, head of sales and marketing, Mercedes-Benz, made their elation known in a statement which said, "The new S-Class has already jumped back into the lead in terms of new vehicle registrations in Germany and its neighbouring European countries.”
The S-Class has taken on an even more important role at the top of the Mercedes range since Daimler dropped the Maybach and now features six body styles instead of the previous three.
With regards to the line-up, initially for the S-Class, the only models available were the S350 BlueTec SE, the S400 Hybrid and the S500. Subsequently the S63 arrived and then the S65 is about to be revealed. It will be 2014 only when we will be able to see the S-Class Coupe and all its variants; including a convertible and the Pullman versions.
The W222 S-Class hasn't yet made it to the Indian market though but we expect that to happen during the 2014 Indian Auto Expo and with such sales in the first three months Mercedes-Benz sure has a winner in the S-Class.
