- Kit will be covered under standard and extended warranty
- Equipment is variant agnostic
CNG power but with a catch
The new third-generation Honda Amaze can be had with CNG power! But there is a catch. The kit will be fitted at the dealer-level and will be covered under the standard and extended warranty (subject to terms and conditions). Also, it will be serviced as standard equipment at any Honda dealership across the country. The kit is priced at Rs. 1 lakh (subject to individual dealers) and does not include fitting charges.
Powertrain specifications
The only engine on offer is Honda’s 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol producing 88bhp and 110Nm. In standard petrol guise, it can be had with either a five-speed MT or a CVT, of which only the former is available for the CNG-powered models. Honda has not officially revealed an output for the CNG guise, but going by the competition, we can expect a drop of anywhere between 10 and 11bhp for the power and 10 and 11Nm for the torque. The kit is variant agnostic, which means that you can fit it to even the top-spec ZX variant.
Short-term gain in pursuit of long-term aim
Honda is the only one among its compact sedan rivals to not have a CNG kit right out of the factory, especially in a part of the market where CNG penetration is in double digits. The company has said that it has a larger aim of bringing hybrid and BEV models post 2026 when the CAFÉ 3 norms come into effect but has had to bring in this option due to the potential volumes that it offers. This hybrid/BEV era will start with the launch of an all-electric SUV based on the Elevate and it will arrive between 2026 and 2027.
