We had already mentioned that Tata was on the verge of bagging a defense order for the Safari Storme which was selected as one of the options for the military here. And now it’s official. The Safari Storme along with the Xenon pick-up have been officially selected with Tata bagging the order.
According to Tata Motors, 3192 Safari Storme’s are going to be part of the first order and this number could grow ten-fold in the future. Over 500 Xenon pick-ups are also part of the order and it being a twin-cab version, the Xenon will prove to be a big boon for carrying loads and soldiers.
The Gypsy was and still is pretty ideal when it comes to hardcore terrain conditions, but lack of safety and any features whatsoever meant it had to make way for more modern machinery. Also diesel being more readily available than petrol, ruled it in Tata’s favor as well.
