Nissan has been continually tinkering with and improving their flagship sports-car, the Nissan GTR. And when it comes to showing off Nissan’s engineering prowess, there is no car better than the GT500R, the racecar that competes in the Japan’s Super GT racing series. This is the same car that won consecutive championship titles for Nissan in 2011 and 2012.
The GT500R looks similar to the production GT-R, which was also known as the ‘Skyline’ before – a car that was popularized by the late ‘Fast and Furious’ series star, Paul Walker. If you go under the skin, it is purely an engineering marvel where a 3.4 litre V8 petrol engine churns out over 530 PS and 440Nm torque. The VRH34B engine is built by the Nissan’s motorsport arm – Nismo.
The aerodynamics have been built to maximize down force with the ‘shark-tooth’ fins to cut down the aerodynamic drag. The car, despite all these heavy modifications weighs a mere 1100 kg owing to the loads of carbon-fiber and aluminum in the chassis and body members. This car will not be on sale anywhere in the world, and so getting to have a look at it will be impossible apart from events like the Auto Expo.
