Honda recently updated their official website with their first-ever MPV for India- the Mobilio. The website says the Brio-based Mobilio MPV will be brought to India in the coming month.
The upcoming Mobilio from Honda is based on the same platform as the Brio which is carried on to the Amaze sedan as well. And if people became fond of the Ertiga we don’t find any reason why Indians wouldn't like the Mobilio because at 4.4 meters, the Mobilio sticks true to its MPV character, providing more space than the car it's based on.
The Mobilio is a budget MUV and so it shares a lot of components with other Honda cars. The interiors of the new car are similar to that of the Amaze and Brio with beige being the predominant colour. The front two rows are spacious enough and the foldable third-row can either accommodate children or make way for extra luggage just like the Ertiga. But since the wheelbase of the Mobilio is larger than the Ertiga, the cabin space and boot space seem on to be on par with Maruti Suzuki’s MPV.
The Mobilio will be available in petrol and diesel trims, which will share the engine options with the Honda City. The 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine produces 117bhp and 145Nm, while the 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel churns out 98.6bhp of power and 200Nm of torque. Both the engines are proven and potent, while the 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol is known for its refinement and power, the 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel is the most fuel efficient engine in the country today.
According to reports, the Honda Mobilio MPV has outdone its primary rival- the Suzuki Ertiga in the Indonesian market and could be the next big thing in the compact MPV segment when launched in India. And why not, with the added convenience of a third row of seats and the option of a desirable set of engines, the Mobilio should be a very interesting proposition for a prospective buyer. When launched, the Mobilio will go up against the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, the Chevrolet Enjoy and the Nissan Evalia. Recently, Honda started the dealer training sessions in India and we expect the car to be launched soon.
