- Mahindra has put off investment in its new plant worth Rs 4000 crore because the government is mulling increasing the tax on diesel vehicles. We feel that more auto manufacturers might follow suit if the burden of recovering the deficit is placed at the doorstep of the car owner.
- The staff in Mumbai's RTOs has decreased in strength over the last decade, while the number of vehicle registrations and drivers' licences issued has more than doubled in certain RTOs. This is causing major delays for the issuing of vehicle registrations and licences.
- The comptroller and auditor general of India has criticised the Delhi transport department's lack of initiative in digitising the records of vehicles registered in the Delhi region. This has led to, among other things, a loss of Rs 86.54 lakh to the exchequer.
- Maruti Suzuki has announced that it will hire around 1900 employees this year. 900 of that amount will be for the engineering and management divisions. 200 positions have already been filled so far. The company will also launch a web-based training academy with an additional investment of Rs 25 crore bt October.
- Mahindra and Mahindra is being sued for fraud, misrepresentation and conspiracy by the dealers it had tied up with in the USA. The dealers have filed suit in federal court in Atlanta, claiming that they have given Mahindra more than USD 9.5 million in cash and over USD 100 million worth of dealer trade secrets.
- Maserati is rumoured to get turbocharged engines for the next-generation Quattroporte from an unlikely source: Ferrari. That's not all; the small engine will be a 430bhp V6 - which suggests that Ferraris might not have that distinctive flat-crank V8 wail for much longer, thanks to emission requirements.
- McLaren has upgraded the already-competent MP4-12C, and it now churns out 616bhp. There is a host of feature upgrades as well, and they're all available free of cost to current owners as well.
- Lotus has fired CEO Dany Bahar amid controversy, and has appointed Aslam Farikullah as the company's new CEO, effective immediately.
- Rolls-Royce had invited one hundred of its customers to dine at its facility in Goodwood - literally along the assembly line. Tables were set up, and the customers were given the red carpet treatment.
