- Honda currently has a petrol only profile in India and that has resulted in a considerable dip in sales. - Nissan is working on the 370Z replacement – confirmed by Shiro Nakamura (head of design: Nissan Motors). The new sportscar is expected to debut in 2014 and will be lighter, faster and more efficient than the current model.
- Maruti Suzuki plans to build low-cost houses for its workers in Haryana and Gujarat in bid to improve relations with the workforce. The initial plans are to construct around 1,500 flats in Haryana for the Manesar and Gurgaon facility, while similar plans will be implemented for the upcoming plant in Gujarat.
- BMW India expects slowest growth in 2012, since its arrival here in 2007. The No.1 luxury car brand in the country blames the slowdown on weakening economy and competitive pressure. - Hyundai is reportedly working on the next generation i10, which expected to be offered in both petrol and diesel guise. - Ford has commenced production of the new compact SUV, EcoSport, in Brazil from 1 August. The EcoSport will be sold in 100 markets across the world and the production will soon begin in India, China and Thailand. We expect the new EcoSport to be rolled-out in India by the end of this year to compete with the Mahindra Mini Xylo and the Renault Duster.
- Nissan will celebrate 30 years of Micra production at the 2012 Paris Motor Show in September. The three previous generation cars, selected from the owners will be displayed at the event after refurbishment. The owners will get the new fourth generation Nissan Micra, which is built and exported from India.
- After New York, the Nissan’s NV200 van will soon ply on the London streets as the new taxi. The NV200 will break hold of the classic London Taxis with 50 per cent better efficiency, more space and cost savings over the Mercedes black cabs. The NV200 is the most successful passenger van platform in the world and will soon be offered in India as the new Nissan Evalia to compete with the Toyota Innova and Mahindra Xylo. - Dutch sportscar maker, Spyker, has sued General Motors for intentionally bankrupting the Swedish company, Saab, by blocking the deal with a Chinese investor. Spyker has demanded USD 3 billion from GM on behalf of Saab, stating that the company deliberately interfered in the Saab deal with Youngman so as to avoid competition in the Chinese market.
- Narain Karthikeyan and HRT racing will promote Formula 1 in Kerala by performing a demo run on 24 August. Local newspapers have reported that the run will be held on the 3km stretch of the Kowdiar – Palayam, in Thiruvananthapuram Kerala.
