- The government is planning a mandatory recall policy in line with policies in the US, UK and Japan where an independent body investigates defects and has the power to impose a penalty if a company is found not issuing a necessary recall. This is due to the fear that the voluntary recall policy issued by SIAM does not have any clauses that impose penalties if a company chooses not to issue a recall even if it is required.
- The government plans to invest Rs 13,000 crore over the next eight years to promote electric and hybrid vehicles. The Department of Heavy Industries will probably seek Cabinet approval for the scheme within the next three months.
