- A diesel fuel price hike might be likely once the presidential polls are over. The hike might be as high as Rs 5, but it is highly unlikely that the price hike will be more than a couple of Rupees - if it happens at all, that is.
- Automobile manufacturers have asked the government to make BS-4 emissions compliance standard across the country as this will save them production costs. At the moment they run two production lines for the different engines. The government says that to do this it requires Rs 50,000 crore, which is not feasible.
- Jaguar-Land Rover has impressive plans for the future. It has lined up a number of sports sedans and sports cars for launch over the next two years. Land Rover hasn't been excluded: two new Range Rover models are also planned for this period.
- Ma Qing Hua has become the first person from China to drive an F1 car. Hua tested for the HRT team st Silverstone during a young drivers' test.
- If you're a gaming fan, you'll be happy to know that game developer Rockstar has released screenshots of Grand Theft Auto 5. The company hasn't commented on when the game will release.
- The rising fuel prices have severely impacted petrol car sales in last few months. The effects are clearly visible on the entry-level segment where no diesel cars are available – many have opted to hike the budget and buy B-segment diesel hatchbacks. Then again there are other who have decided to buy second hand diesel vehicles instead – the top industry officials report that the second hand market is expected to grow 10 to 11 per cent this year, against 3-4 per cent expected in new car market.
- The same drop in sales has brought a few more headaches for Volkswagen India. VW’s top marketing and sales team including Neeraj Garg (director VW passenger car division India) and Sandeep Mandrekar (head of sales) have quit due to drop in sales.
- Mercedes Benz will unveil the new B-Class in India on July 19. The B-Class will be the cheapest three-pointed-star to be offered in India with the sub Rs-25 lakh pricing. The B-Class is more like a big hatchback than a compact crossover like the BMW X1 and the Audi Q3, but will compete with them on pricing in India.
