Tesla has not had a smooth time with its wing doors on the Model X. The company has just released a software update to target issues with the falcon-wing doors.
Owners of the Model X, Tesla’s electric SUV, have complained over a period of time that these doors sometimes fail to open and shut as desired. Tesla’s latest software update helps fix the concern. This allows the owner access to shut all doors by simply pressing a button on the key fob.
Earlier this week, Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk admitted, “The software that controls the Model X and the operation of the doors has been incredibly difficult to refine.” He went on to specify that it was incredibly difficult to refine the complex set of sensors to work well, but now believes Tesla is almost there in making the doors useful.
Tesla’s Model X’s falcon-wing doors which although spectacular have been a challenge to engineer. Tesla had to resort to dropping the original hydraulic actuation system. It had a lot of concerns. It overheated, leaked, and suffered a few other issues too. With only a few months left at that time to go into production start, Tesla had to re-engineer an electric system to handle the actuation.
